Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have discovered a variety of engaging indie games. But, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game includes a character that is truly a turd attempting to navigate to a restroom. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

The gameplay is easy to grasp: you only need a single jump button. Throughout one hundred fifty levels, you'll face tough enemies and unlock a store to buy outfits for your fecal avatar.

Plan your jumps carefully, as a mistake means restarting the level. Jump off floating orbs to propel the poop higher, traverse disappearing surfaces, and activate triggers to reveal hidden paths. Earn UN-KOINS and use them on tougher levels where the action gets crazy.

In terms of design, the experience boasts neon stages and catchy soundtrack. The retro graphics with moving geometric shapes may remind players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although difficult to think of other games where you are a coiled turd, video games have long featured fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create throwables from protagonist droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, this theme shows up heavily in the adventure The Stick of Truth.

Despite its silly concept, Unko Technica has already earned impressive recognition, like being named best at Bandai Namco's game competition in 2023. A playable preview is available at present on Steam, with the full game planned to arrive on computers on November 19.
