The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Preview Debuts, Revealing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voice Cast

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination shared the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.

The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will send Mario to the distant reaches of the galaxy. In his journey, he meets a different royal figure and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

A Space-Faring Quest Inspired by Classic Games

Much like the Wii console classics that act as its source material, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. On his epic voyage, he will meet again some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a breakout star from the first movie.

But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who reportedly utilizes powers related to metal. Notably, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not only concentrated on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also features references to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

All-Star Vocal Ensemble Returns and Expands

The film will welcome back of the primary vocal talent, featuring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Fresh faces in the lineup for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.

Mario's Major Moment

The new Mario movie is planned to debut around the time of the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his allies.

Nintendo confirmed a trio of new releases officially announced for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Release Date Confirmed

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
